The Founding Fathers of the United States of America vehemently opposed socialism. The news reports remind us that socialists want to upend the lives of U.S. citizens.
But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come… evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived.
— 2 Timothy 3:1, 13 NKJV
In Paul B. Skousen’s book, The Naked Socialist, he highlighted this point about socialism. 1
Of all the socialistic promises made to lure people into surrendering their rights, the promise to deliver something they didn’t earn has been the most difficult to eradicate.
Skousen noted that socialism forces one party to give to another. He also stated that “Jesus’ message was precisely the opposite: be free to choose—and choose wisely.”
But don’t begin until you count the cost. For who would begin construction of a building without first calculating the cost to see if there is enough money to finish it?

Insights from the Founding Fathers
Socialism Is Unconstitutional
Sam Adams: “The Utopian schemes of leveling and a community of goods, are as visionary and impractical as those ideas which vest all property in the Crown … [these ideas] are arbitrary, despotic, and in our government, unconstitutional.”
Socialism Steals by Redistribution
Thomas Jefferson: “To take from one, because it is thought his own industry and that of his fathers has acquired too much, in order to spare to others, who, or whose fathers, have not exercised equal industry and skill, is to violate arbitrarily the first principle of association, the guarantee to everyone the free exercise of his industry and the fruits acquired by it.”
Socialism Kills Property Rights
John Adams: “The moment the idea is admitted into society that property is not as sacred as the laws of God, and that there is not a force of law and public justice to protect it, anarchy and tyranny commence. If ‘Thou shalt not covet’ and ‘Thou shalt not steal’ were not commandments of Heaven, they must be made inviolable precepts in every society before it can be civilized or made free.”
Socialism Destroys Industry
Thomas Jefferson: “A wise and frugal government… shall restrain men from injuring one another, shall leave them otherwise free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned. This is the sum of good government.”
Socialism Steals Motivation
Thomas Jefferson: “I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.”
James Madison: “With respect to the words ‘general welfare,’ I have always regarded them as qualified by the detail of powers connected with them. To take them in a literal and unlimited sense would be a metamorphosis of the Constitution into a character which there is a host of proofs was not contemplated by its creators.”
Benjamin Franklin: “When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic.”
Socialism Kills Freedom
James Madison: “An elective despotism was not the government we fought for; but one in which the powers of government should be so divided and balanced among the several bodies of magistracy as that no one could transcend their legal limits without being effectually checked and restrained by the others.”
James Madison: “Wherever the real power in a Government lies, there is the danger of oppression.”
Socialism Destroys Our Way of Life
James Madison: “There are more instances of the abridgment of the freedom of the people by gradual and silent encroachments of those in power than by violent and sudden usurpations.”
Benjamin Franklin: “I am for doing good to the poor, but I differ in opinion of the means. I think the best way of doing good to the poor, is not making them easy in poverty, but leading or driving them out of it [with capitalism].”
Thomas Jefferson: “To compel a man to furnish contributions of money for the propagation of opinions which he disbelieves and abhors, is sinful and tyrannical.”
John Adams: “A Constitution of Government once changed from Freedom, can never be restored. Liberty, once lost, is lost forever.”
Socialists Sell Dreams, Deliver Nightmares
The Founding Fathers safeguarded your future with the Constitution, but socialists want to destroy it by selling you dreams that deliver nightmares.
Read for yourself (a PDF download2) about the dream world that socialists promise everyone in the U.S., not just citizens. These are the same empty promises made by socialists for centuries. Many times in history, the gullible bought into similar socialistic Ponzi schemes and later suffered the life-draining consequences.
Within the ‘Our Perspective’ section of the PDF download, see the linked excerpt that highlights the demand for change.
To achieve this future, our class must organize. The Democratic Socialists of America is building a party whose goal is a democratic society of the working class. Our enemies are not just individual bosses, but the entire global system of capital; not just this or that cop, judge, or president, but the entire anti-democratic structure of our society. We are workers fighting to transform society: to win the battle for democracy, draft a new constitution, and create a democratic socialist republic.
DSA has written this program for ending capitalist oligarchy and creating a real democracy. Some of these demands may be won under our current system, but we know complete victory will require building a new society from the ground up. We push these demands to their furthest extent today, so we can fight for their fullest realization in a socialist future. Join us.
Socialists plan to replace the Constitution of the United States of America with a new constitution, and then build a new society from the ground up. They want to convince you to repeat a hair-brained experiment that has never worked and never will.
- Gullible people, those not fully aware of the past failures of communism and socialism, can’t fathom why anyone would reject the promised free handouts.
- They don’t realize that socialists require the blatant and unconstitutional redistribution of wealth.
- Also, study the candidates selling these socialistic pipe dreams, and research their shadow relationships with domestic and foreign groups known for hating America and its long-standing values.
Stand Up for Your Way of Life!
It’s neither raciest nor phobic to oppose people who express written goals to end your way of life.
Consider the force and cost required3 to achieve DSA’s goals.
I encourage you to download and read the DSA goals and opposing viewpoints. Take a stand!
What are you doing to make people aware that it is the Constitution of the United States of America that has guided this nation for 250 years, not socialism?
